This is a colourful Rajasthani Patachitra, cloth painting depicting the Jain cosmology. It shows the results of karma, actions of this life and its repercussions on the next birth including the experiences in purgatory. The cloth painting here depicts the Cosmic Being in the form of a man standing with arms akimbo and garments flared from waist to hem. There is an attempt to blend the microcosm and macrocosm. This relationship between man and nature or cosmos is depicted in a systematic manner. The section around the chest clearly suggests the celestial zone while the one below is Hell and in between is earth.
