This is an elegantly decorated scroll painting of an invitation from Rajasthan. Painted in a vertical format, the narrow and long painting looks like a patch work of varied squares and rectangles. It has the eight auspicious symbols (ashtamangala) of the Jain artistic tradition represented on it. On either side of this painting, there is a representation of the sun and the moon while the auspicious water pitcher, purnakalasha is placed in the centre. In the central section there are several chatri, umbrellas, under which female attendants stand holding flywhisks and musical instruments. These commonly shared symbols bear profound philosophical and practical meaning, which have been perpetuated over centuries.
