This undecorated storage jar with a green glazed conical body was uncovered amidst a sizable cargo of Chinese export ceramics and porcelains from a late 17th century shipwreck near Vung Tau, Vietnam. Mass-produced in South China for export, such jars were widely used in Southeast Asia as storage containers for salt and other food supplies. This jar found on the ship was probably used to either store commodities that were to be sold, or used to contain oil, water or food that was required to feed the crew and passengers.
