This set of large wooden doors, painted in red and gold are carved with panels containing Qur'anic verses and scrolling floral motifs, some which look like lotuses. The two upper panels feature Qur'anic verses contained in a mihrab-shaped (prayer niche) panels, which also shows a crescent and a star. Given the colours and motifs, these doors came from a home in East Java, probably Kudus. The Qur'anic inscriptions on the doors would not only have served to announce the religious affiliation of the owners but were also believed to protect the household.
