This standing pottery figure is dressed in a tunic, carrying a shield and a sword. It was possibly moulded with incised details, the head attached at the neck. The object was interrred in a tomb together with a large assembly of figures and tomb models, and hence was 'mingqi' or burial ware. The custom of burying objects with the deceased stems from the belief in life after death.
