Huanguali otherwise known as yellow rosewood is also called old huali. It has a brilliant colour varying from light yellow to mauve. The wood has a fragrant smell and has a clear grain. During the Ming dynasty (1368-1644), most fine furniture were made from this wood mostly without decoration and keeping the furniture to the natural beauty of the grain. Among all the huali, the best one is the yellow rosewood of Hainan province.
