This dish has brilliant underglaze blue decoration of two phoenixes amidst clouds and floral sprays in the central medallion. The inner walls are surrounded by plant sprays and the flattened rim features linear decorations. The dish is a good quality example of export porcelain to Indonesia. Jingdezhen is the best known ceramic production area in China. It started producing blue and white ware during the Yuan dynasty (1279-1368) and became the capital of the Chinese ceramic industry during the Ming and Qing dynasties.
