This contemporary figurine of the thousand-armed Guanyin (Goddess of Mercy) sits with a pair of hands in Uttarabodhi Mudra position and another pair in dhyani mudra position. She has hundreds of small hands at the sides and several additional arms raised above her head holding two Buddhist emblems and a miniature bodhisattva. The raised pedestal she sits on is decorated with more figurines, possibly representing the eight immortals from popular religion, in various positions.The thousand-armed Guanyin is said to be the personification of perfect Compassion as her thousand helping hands of Compassion coupled with the eyes of Wisdom in each palm was meant to save all sentient beings.Dehua porcelain is better known in the West as blanc-de-chine porcelain, which rose to international significance around the 17th century. Its popularity at home and abroad continued and the kilns at Dehua remain prolific to this day.
