These illustrations were used in Stirling’s lecture “A Secret Society of China”, delivered in London on March 8, 1926. In the original typed lecture manuscript, he wrote: “While in Singapore I happened to discover in a store room an old box in which I found a number of triad seals from which triad certificates of memberships were printed. These seals were all carved wooden blocks from which I took several impressions and they agree exactly with the reproductions of the same as published in the book [The Triad Society, 1887] by William Stanton.”
