The membership certificate of the Ho Seng Society forms part of the secret society paraphernalia found in the William Stirling Collection. William George Stirling was the Assistant Protector of Chinese in Singapore from 1921 to 1931. The Hung poem on the certificate had been cryptically permutated to begin at the top right-hand corner before appearing at the bottom left-hand corner, thereby rendering the text indecipherable to non-secret society members.
