Chrita Dulu Kala

‘Chrita Dulu Kala’, loosely translated as ‘Stories from Ancient Times’, were books written (by several authors) at the turn of the 20th century up to the 1950s and were immensely popular within the Peranakan Chinese community. Written in serialised format, they tell stories from Chinese folklore, legends and historical epics such as ‘Journey to the West’ and ‘Romance of the Three Kingdoms’. The books were published periodically and, from the 1930s, contained advertisements for goods and services.
