One in a set of three prints, this painting is drawn and engraved by Thomas Daniell (1749-1840), a European artist who toured India and recorded many monuments and scenes through European eyes. This hand-painted aquatint shows a scene of a Muslim monument. The light enters this painting from an unknown source although afternoon or dusk is being implied. The stark contrast of light and shade, typical of the Indian summer is very efficiently captured in this painting, in similar fashion to his other paintings. The colours here are quite muted, the cumulous clouds in the distant sky lend an atmospheric effect to the whole composition.
