Panel

This rectangular embroidered panel uses the satin stitch. It comes with a fringe of narrow threaded bead-panels and short tassels along the width of the panel. It is created using the satin stitch. The design is dominated by two large peony blossoms at the centre of the panel that are formed as silk brocades. These are fabrics woven with a raised design. Smaller sized peonies form a distinct border around the panel. This design which includes the beadwork fringe was more commonly found in the works of the Penang nonyas, rather than their counterparts in Singapore and Malaya. This was to give their work a greater luxurious feel. Such panels could be used as table covers, ornamental hangings, pillow and bolster cases.
