This pot was made with coils of clay which were joined and paddle-beaten for added strength. It is decorated with incised s-shaped motif around the shoulders. The lighter coloured lower body is also decorated with incised marks.Pots from Ban Chansen site, near Lopburi in Central Thailand has been dated to approximately 2,000 BC. The elaborate designs are a good indication that these were probably ritual or ‘prestige’ vessels and used as burial jars to contain either food or objects for the deceased in their afterlife.
