It is unclear what this ornament was originally intended for. It is unlikely to be an ear ornament, and its cylindrical collar hints that it could have been affixed to rod-like objects. It has also been suggested that such an ornament with a gap in its hoop could have been used to hold cords around the waist, or placed in coiffures. Besides personal adornment, gold was also used to make religious items and as money during this period.
