A dressing table was part of a set of furniture traditionally given to a bride upon marriage by her own parents. The cabinets and drawers in such tables were used to store face powder, combs, brushes and other personal items. By the early 20th century in Singapore, most dressing tables were made of teak, a wood widely used locally for making furniture. This piece is carved, engraved and embossed with English motifs favoured by the Peranakan Chinese in the early 20th century.
