This beadwork sampler was used by Nonyas (Peranakan women) as a pictorial reference, and is generally acknowledged to have been derived from European cross-stitch books. Of all the beadworking techniques, petit-point stitching is a method that is probably the most prevalent today, and appears on contemporary versions of articles, such as beaded slippers.
