This four-tiered gold ornament has even diameter throughout, and could have been used as an ear ornament. However, it has been suggested that such round band ornaments with a gap in the loop were perhaps not ear ornaments, but cord clips used to hold cords together around the waist, or placed in conical coiffures as depicted on statues. This ornament belongs to the 8th-11th century centuries in Java, which saw a profusion of jewellery forms.
