This rectangular embroidered panel comes with a fringe of narrow threaded bead-panels and short tassels along the widths of the panel. The decorative motifs are created using the technique of bead netting, where a surface of beads is created by inserting single or multiple threads into them to form a unified structure. The motifs include monkeys, birds, deer, dragons and floral motifs. Deer are symbols of longevity while the dragon is a symbol of security and good fortune. This design which includes the beadwork fringe was more commonly found in the works of the Penang nonyas, rather than their counterparts in Singapore and Malaya. This was to give their work a greater luxurious feel. Such panels could be used as table covers, ornamental hangings, pillow and bolster cases.
