Tablecloth

This rectangular embroidered tablecloth is stitched together using the satin stitch, voided satin stitch and beaded netting. Satin stitches are series of flat stitches used to completely cover a section of the background fabric. A row of beadwork tassels line one of the lengths of the panels. This panel contains several different motifs in its design. These include rose like peonies, squirrels, mandarin ducks and phoenixes. Peonies symbolised wealth and prosperity while mandarin ducks symbolised happiness in marriage. Phoenixes signified high virtue in character.
