Haw Par Villa exhibit depicting the three sworn brothers from the Chinese classical novel 'Romance of the Three Kingdoms'

Liu Bei, Guan Yu and Zhang Fei, the three warriors from the historical novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms, became sworn brothers after taking the Oath of the Peach Garden. In doing so, they pledged their loyalty to the Han Dynasty, vowing to protect the emperor and the common people. This showcase of the three sworn brothers is one of several statues and sculptures on display at Haw Par Villa, where Chinese legend and folklore was the predominant theme. Originally called Tiger Balm Gardens, Haw Par Villa was built by Aw Boon Haw in 1937. A prominent businessman and philanthropist, Aw had established the gardens with the intention of educating the public on Chinese culture.
