This ritual necklace has representations of Krishna as Shrinathaji on one side and a floral pattern on the other. The central pendant also bears an image of Ganesha for he presides over worship offered to any Hindu god. Double-sided representations of many Hindu gods with Ganesha on religious pendants are known. The other key importance of this necklace is due to the presence of navaratna (nine gems representing the nine planents) pendants on either side of the central pendant. Krishna as Shrinathji is worshipped by followers of Pushtimarga, an aspect of Vaishnavism popularised by Vallabhacharya in the 15th century throughout western India and Uttar Pradesh.
