Ear ornament

This form of ear ornament is known as the ‘open oval’ form. This ear ornament is symmetrical, has a round cross section, and its ends have flat faces. Javanese goldwork during this era does not reflect influence from India. Instead it shares more similarities with the jewellery of maritime Southeast Asia, and similar ear ornaments have been found in Oc Eo, an archaeological site in South Vietnam. Unlike earlier centuries when gold was fashioned into objects for the dead, this era saw gold made for the living as personal adornments.
