This beaded slippers or ‘kasut manek’ is embroidered with silk threads, gold and silver threads and sequins on a velvet base. The decorative motifs of flowers and birds are done with coloured silk threads using the satin stitch. The rest of the slipper top is filled with gold metallic thread couching that produces a raised effect. ‘Kasut manek’ are the most informal and practical of the Peranakan footwear and was worn for everyday use.
