The ear ornament was made from a beaten bar of gold, bent back to form a loop with its flat ends pointing in opposite directions. Other ear ornaments of this period came in the shape of an open oval or a star. Unlike the preceding period that used gold for grave offering, gold was fashioned into personal adornment in this period. This period also saw the beginning of using heat to work gold and the use of techniques like casting and soldering. Such was the sophistication of the techniques that it is possible that gold working had become a specialised occupation by this time.
