This stool may be a variation of what is known as an ‘orator’s stool. Each 'Haus Tamboran' or man’s house has such a stool that is used in ceremonial speech-giving when the orator strikes the seat part with a bundle of leaves to emphasize his main points. It has also been suggested that in a case of a trial, the person sitting on the stool will not dare tell a lie.
