This book, entitled 'zhongguo gongchandang dishici quanguo daibiao dahui wenjian huibian' ('The Documentary Compilation of the 10th Assembly of the National Representatives of the Chinese Communist Party') is a compilation of Chairman Mao’s speeches.Associated with communism, red symbolised revolutionary zeal and allegiance to Chairman Mao Zedong and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). It was the obvious choice of colour for the covers of books featuring revolutionary content. More than a billion copies of books containing Mao’s essays, poems and speeches were printed from 1966 to 1976. They were available for sale in bookshops and were also distributed by local committees to their members. At the height of the Cultural Revolution, these books became so important that they were even presented as wedding gifts.
