This is an example of cast gold ring which features a stylised Kawi inscription. Such rings with U-shaped hoops and flat bezels across the top were known as stirrup rings. Due to its size, this ring could have been strung around the neck and used as a pendant or seal. Although Indian influence had reached Java by this time and Indian motifs provided inspiration for Javanese goldsmiths, Javanese jewellery were not mere imitates of Indian models. The nature of interaction between Indian and Javanese culture remains a subject of debate.
