This mat is decorated with thousands of tubular glass beads, sewn to a cloth facing which has been wrapped over a pandanus leaf mat. This mat was not hung, but was laid on the ground and used as a runner during ceremonies. Such mats are extremely rare and must have been used for important ceremonies. Such a decorative item would have indicated the prestige and rank of a local rulers who probably owned it.
