This is an example of cast gold ring which features a Sri motif. Most motifs inscribed on rings are related to the Hindu goddess Sri, the goddess of rice, fertility, good fortune, and prosperity in general. Symbols such as the lotus, an earthen pot containing the water of life, and a conch, were associated with the goddess Sri. Although Indian influence had reached Java by this time and Indian motifs provided inspiration for Javanese goldsmiths, Javanese jewellery were not mere imitates of Indian models. The nature of interaction between Indian and Javanese culture remains a subject of debate.
