Floral patterns such as daisies dominate the decorative motifs on this piece. The border of the main decorative design is lined with sequins. Mattress panels like these were usually made using embroidery frames or ‘pidangans’, to which the fabric was attached. Mattress panels were part of the usual pieces of embroidery and beadwork used to decorate the bridal chamber. It was attached to the sides of the mattress that were visible and contributed to the festive atmosphere of traditional wedding ceremonies.
