Torque necklace

The silver necklace appears to have been made from thick twisted wire, but this effect, as well as the spiral decoration at the two ends, has actually been achieved through repoussé and chasing. The hollowed necklace is made of two halves, which have to be disconnected in order to wear the necklace. They are placed around the neck, before the fastener at the centre of the necklace is connected and the hook inserted into the eyelet at the other end. This kind of necklace is known as ‘kalung untiran’ or twisted necklace and was popular in Java.
