Located in the historical town centre of Malacca along what is today Laksamana Road, the Stadthuys (‘town hall’ in Dutch) was a structure built by the Dutch in 1650s when they still occupied Malacca, to serve as the administrative centre and the Dutch Governor’s residence. Owing to building’s red exterior and other surrounding red architecture like the clock tower and the Christ Church (not pictured), the site is collectively known as Dutch Square or Red Square.
