This temple banner is woven in horizontal bands in green, white, yellow and indigo blue silk on a red cotton ground. The design typically consists of a range of stylised elements that include different motifs such as Mount Meru (the cosmological centre of the Buddhist world), stupas, soldiers, celestial beings, the earth goddess, Nang Thoranee, and zoomorphic motifs such as elephants, and the 'sang-hong', a mythical long-nosed animal. The end of the banner includes the names of the donors who funded the making of the banner to the temple. This one indicates it was woven by Mrs Er and Mrs Kher. The donation of banners to temples was an act of merit-making. They were hung during agricultural and other festivals.
