The first letter is by He Liang, who decided to quit the Malayan Communist Party on 22 March 1955. He mentions others who have done the same and claims that the government is fair to those who surrender. The second letter writer, Ah Tiong, declares that after two failed infiltration operations in northern Pahang, the whole Communist organisation has collapsed. He adds that fellow comrades understand that continued armed struggle after seven years is impossible because people have lost faith in the Party.
