The Adelphi Hotel moved to Coleman Street at the corner of North Bridge Road in the 1880s, after having previously resided in Commercial Square and High Street. The hotel underwent a major revamp after it was bought over by the Sarkies Brothers in 1904 and subsequently became one of the top hotels in Singapore at the turn of the century. The hotel closed in 1973, before the building was demolished in 1980 to make way for a new building that housed shops and offices.
