This tomb cover has red thulth script woven on a white silk ground. The inscription comes from the Qur’an and reads : ‘And that Allah may help thee with powerful help.’ Textiles used for tombs often contain religious phrases, and these textiles were often used on the graves of leading Muslims. In parts of Southeast Asia, similar types of cloth were also used to make talismanic vests and jackets which were worn for protection against harm.Thulth is one of the most impressive scripts used for large inscriptions. In the Qur'an, it is often used for surah headings.
