The Chinese-American Composite Wing (CACW)

The Chinese-American Composite Wing (CACW) was a joint venture by the United States Air Force and the Chinese Air Force, conceived by Claire Lee Chennault, to fight against the Japanese invasion during World War Two. It was a special unit made up of Chinese and American crew and pilots. The CACW was activated on 1 October 1943 and disbanded on 19 September 1945. This photograph belongs to Mr. Willard Lee, a Singapore-born Chinese who left for China to further his studies and later joined the Chinese Air Force. He left the service in 1947 and returned to Singapore.
