The original structure of the Sri Thandayuthapani Temple at Tank Road was built by the south Indian Chettiar community in Singapore in 1859. The religious site is devoted to the Hindu deity Sri Thandayuthapani, also known as Lord Subramaniam or Lord Murugan. Commonly referred to as Chettiar’s Temple, the complex has undergone various renovation and restoration works, the most recent being in 2009, when a consecration ceremony was held at the temple. It is most famous for being the end point for devotees taking part in a procession during the Hindu festival known as Thaipusam, which is held annually in honour of the same deity worshipped by the temple devotees.
