This sherd, found in Indonesia, was part of a large jar decorated with compartmentalised designs in cobalt blue, which was then covered with clear glaze. Cobalt imported from the Persia at the time, produced a rich blue tone. Iron in the pigment fired black can be seen as spots where the cobalt was thicker.Sherds such as this seem to indicate that a range of shapes were exported to Southeast Asia in the Yuan or early Ming period (1368-1644).
