This wooden Qur’an stand is carved with circular medallions, containing star motifs and multi-petalled flowers which resembles a lotus. There are traces of red and yellow pigments on it. Given the size of this stand, it would have been used to hold one's personal Qur'an. The Qur’an is highly regarded in Islam and is always treated with great respect. This is because the Qur'an for Muslims is God’s divine revelations. No Qur'an would be left lying unattended on the floor in a Muslim home. When read, the Qur’an is placed on the table or if one is sitting on the floor, on an elevated plane such as a pillow or a Qur’an stand.
