Kebaya

The Kebaya is a long sleeved body hugging outer garment that reaches below the waist and opens in front. The frontal hems are secured by kerosangs or jewelled brooches. This piece could have been made from voile, a fine cotton fabric of French or Swiss origins. The decorative motifs could be then embroidered onto the fabric using lacework executed in silk threads. The floral decorative motifs are focussed along the entire length of the outer hems of the garment, including the fringes of the sleeves. Kebayas come in all shapes, sizes and colours, although they are more well-known as close fitting, body hugging , densely embroidered and pastel-hued blouses.
