In the pantheon of Chinese Buddhism, rakshasha, or luosha ( 明代罗刹像) in Chinese, are by and large identified as demonic beings who reside in the underworld, and the underwater world. They often appear in groups, forming part of the forces of the King of Hell or the Dragon King. Despite its small size, this rakshasha sports a dramatic and mean expression on his face. With its fists clenched, the figure suggests that the original context in which it was installed could have been a judgement scene presided by the King of Hell, or Yenluowang.
