The Japanese military government sold lottery tickets like these (priced at one dollar each) throughout Malaya. The first tickets for the Syonan Saiken lottery were sold in July 1942, with a top prize of $100,000 to be provided by the Yokohama Specie Bank Ltd. Many punters, however, reported that prizes were never given out for these lotteries. The money was used instead to fund the war and military administration.
