This Qur'an stand is carved with arabesque and split palmette designs. The mother of pearl inlay in a geometrical pattern comprising star-shape motifs covers the whole stand. The top panel of the stand features a carved roundel of calligraphy known as thuluth. The Qur’an is highly regarded in Islam and is always treated with great respect, as the medium responsible for transmitting God’s divine revelations. No Qur’an would be left lying unattended on the floor in a Muslim home. When read, the Qur’an is placed on the table or if one is sitting on the floor, on an elevated plane such as a pillow or a Qur’an stand.
