Tunic

This Asho Chin tunic was made on a backstrap loom in two sections, which were joined down the centre. The cotton was indigo-dyed and the patterns were woven with silk in bright pink, green and white across the centre. The tunic was worn until recently by an elderly woman in the village of Don in Taunggyi, Rakhine State.Chin garments with such fine weaving reflect the maturity and status of their owners. Such pieces are rare finds these days, although there appears to be some interest in reviving their production amongst the Chin communities living in Rakhine State.
