This is a decorative border for a bridal bed mattress. Red, orange and purple horizontal bands of varying widths with gold geometric patterns are used in supplementary weft technique or songket (gold brocade cloth) style. The Minangkabau of West Sumatra have one of the richest material cultures in island Southeast Asia as a result of agriculture and trade. Their gold brocade textiles in particular show their love for the exquisite and the opulent.
