Skirtcloth

This cotton fabric has a white ground with blue, brown and black patterned stylised floral and birds forms motifs. The transverse edges have a border of brown with geometric design in white. Textiles of this type are known as 'kain lepas' referring to the unsewn rectangular batik textile that is elaborately wrapped around the hips and secured with a knot. It is also known as 'kain panjang" (long cloth) as the length of the fabric is two and half times its width.
