Born in 1966 in Singapore, Jason Lim holds a Bachelor of Art (Hons) from Central St Martins College of Art and Design, U.K. (1992) and a Master of Fine Art from Royal Melbourne Institute Technology University, Australia (2003). Lim is a trained ceramicist and interdisciplinary artist.This is one of five works in the ‘From the River’ series that Lim completed during his 2006 residency at Vermont Studio Center, Vermont, USA. The artist tends to complete a major series of works at each of the residency programmes he embarks on. The organic forms in the series are inspired by nature: During the residency, Lim took frequent treks through the Vermont forest and observed the growth and decay of the undergrowth. With these works, Lim attempts to capture the forms, textures and patterns from these observations.
