This Changsha stoneware jar has a pale grey body covered with a crackled ash glaze. It is decorated with three floral sprays painted in underglaze iron brown.The Changsha kilns produced a wide range of wares for export. The kiln is known for its innovative application of underglaze decoration using iron and copper pigments. This type of ewer has been found in large quantities in Southeast Asia, most recently in the Belitung wreck, which was salvaged from Indonesian waters. The cargo included some pieces of Changsha wares.
